The Beantown Marathon, run in my living room
April 20, 2020. No races, no problem. 3,144 laps of the living room and 26 bowls of beans, one per mile.

On April 20, 2020, the race calendar was empty. So I held my own.
The Beantown Marathon was a full 26.2 run inside my apartment in New York: 3,144 laps of the living room, with 26 bowls of beans, one at every mile, livestreamed on Instagram.
It’s in the archive as an unofficial marathon, because there was no chip and no official clock. Later that year the majors went virtual too: Boston in September, London and Chicago in October, and New York in November. Those are logged as virtual in the running results.
In 2021 the real races came back, and I ran Berlin, London, Chicago, Boston and New York inside six weeks.
