50 marathons in 50 states, in one year
From the 2018 New York City Marathon to the 2019 one, I ran a marathon in every state. Here is the year by the numbers.

It started on November 4, 2018 at the TCS New York City Marathon (4:04:25) and finished there 364 days later on November 3, 2019 (4:01:09). In between I ran a marathon in every one of the 50 states.
The shape of the year
- 50 marathons in 50 states, in one year.
- 10 Mainly Marathons races, the series that strings states together on consecutive days. Twelve times that year I ran marathons on back-to-back days.
- One sub-four: 3:57:06 at the Mesa-Phoenix Marathon in February 2019, still the fastest marathon in my archive.
- The longest day: 7:40:24 at Foy’s to Blacktail in Kalispell, Montana.
- The far ends: Kona, Hawaii on June 30 and Anchorage, Alaska a week earlier.
Why
The project ran for the Gweneviere Mann Foundation, which I started in memory of my late wife, Gwen, to fund early detection for brain tumors and lung cancers. Why I ran 50. Men’s Health introduced it in its January/February 2019 issue.
Every race is in the results archive, with times, places and links to the official results. The Endure page has the map.
